Do we meet in person or online?
We meet 100% virtually. This secure telehealth model ensures you have consistent, uninterrupted support whether you are at home, at work, or on the road traveling for competition. Because we meet virtually, our reach depends on the type of service you need:
Clinical Services: I am licensed to provide clinical therapy to clients located in Iowa, as well as any state participating in PsyPact.
Performance Services: Mental performance coaching is available nationwide, regardless of where you are located.
-
Here is what you can expect from our first session:
Alignment & Logistics: We’ll review informed consent and ensure my approach is exactly what you’re looking for.
Your Turn to Ask: I’ll open the floor for any questions you have about me, my background, or the process.
The Deep Dive: I’ll gather information about your past and present to help me fully understand your unique situation.
The Game Plan: I’ll share my initial clinical and performance impressions, and together we’ll decide if we’re a good fit and how often we should meet.
-
After our initial assessment, we shift from gathering information to taking action. We will build your plan of attack by focusing on:
A True Partnership: You bring the expertise on you and your lived experience; I bring the expertise in clinical and sport psychology.
Targeted Goal Setting: Together, we’ll define exactly what 'better' looks like for your mental health and your performance.
Actionable Strategies: We’ll combine our knowledge to map out the most effective, practical steps to help you reach those goals.
After treatment planning, we will meet until your goals are met or, if they are not being met, adapt our interventions to better suit you

Yes. I am currently in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare, United Healthcare, and Wellmark.
Because we bridge the gap between mental health and sport psychology, here is how coverage typically works:
Clinical Therapy: Typically covered by insurance when deemed medically necessary.
Mental Performance: Generally not covered by insurance, as these services focus on performance enhancement rather than medical treatment.
Out-of-Network: If I am not in-network with your specific provider, I can provide a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.
-
Please don't hesitate to reach out. To help keep these services accessible, I offer a few different pathways:
Pro Bono & Sliding Scale: I reserve a limited number of pro bono and reduced-fee spots in my schedule specifically for clients facing financial barriers.
Trusted Referrals: If my reduced-rate spots are currently full, I won't leave you without a strategy. I am happy to connect you with trusted providers in the community who offer lower-cost services so you can keep moving forward.

Because we bridge "The Gap" between getting well and getting better, finding the right fit depends on your current goals. Here is a breakdown of our pathways:
Mental Performance is for you if:
You feel stuck: You are physically healthy, but feel your mindset is holding you back from your full potential.
You want to sharpen your edge: You want to improve specific skills like focus, composure, or resilience under pressure.
You lead others: You are an athlete, coach, or business leader looking to improve team dynamics and communication.
You want to "level up": You do not have a specific mental health diagnosis, but want to build your psychological skillset.
Clinical Therapy is for you if:
You are navigating symptoms: You are experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, or significant emotional distress.
It's impacting your routine: Your mental health is impacting your ability to function in daily life, work, or relationships.
You need a clinical approach: You are seeking a diagnosis and a targeted treatment plan for a specific mental health condition.
You plan to use insurance: You want to utilize your health insurance for services deemed medically necessary.
The Combined Approach (Bridging "The Gap") is for you if:
You want the best of both worlds: You need the clinical rigor and safety of a therapist, combined with the aggressive growth mindset of a performance consultant.
Mental health is impacting your game: A clinical issue (like depression or anxiety) is actively sabotaging your athletic or professional performance.
Performance is impacting your mental health: A performance failure, injury, or career transition has triggered significant emotional distress.
You refuse to separate them: You know that getting well and getting better are connected, and you want to tackle them simultaneously.

As athletes reach higher levels of competition, the physical margin of difference between them gets smaller and smaller. Mental performance is what sets the elite apart. Here is why it matters:
The Competitive Advantage: When everyone on the field or in the boardroom is highly skilled, your mindset becomes your ultimate weapon to outlast the competition.
Proven by the Elite: Professional, Olympic, collegiate, and elite youth athletes consistently rely on mental performance providers to maintain their edge.
Regaining Confidence: It isn't just about pushing forward; it’s about bouncing back. We give you the exact tools you need to rebuild your confidence and composure after a setback.
-
The Unique Advantage: As a provider trained in both disciplines, I am uniquely positioned to support you across the entire continuum of mental health and elite performance.
Simultaneous Growth: It is incredibly common to have clinical goals (like managing anxiety or depression) and performance goals (like building resilience under pressure) at the exact same time.
The Arena: I provide a confidential, objective, and non-judgmental space for you to build your plan of attack and conquer whichever goals matter most to you.
Building the Foundation: While we can absolutely tackle both, we will always prioritize your immediate clinical safety and well-being first. We have to build a strong, stable mental foundation before we can successfully stack elite performance skills on top of it.
